バレンボイム

バレンボイムは現在では指揮者として活躍していますが、素晴らしいピアニストです。ベートーベン、モーツアルトのピアノソナタ全曲演奏のCDは今でも名盤として広く販売されています。
指揮法は12才からマレケビッチに学び、フルトベングラーにも推奨される活動をしていました。ピアノによる音楽の限界を認識したのでしょうか、嘗てカラヤンも、バーンシュタインもピアノを目指して練習を重ねたのですが、知人からの「君の欲する音はピアノでは不可能で、管弦楽によるしかない」との助言で指揮者になったのですが、バレンボイムもそうだったのかも知れません。
そう言えば名指揮者ジョージセルも素晴らしいピアノ演奏者で、彼の場合はデュオソナタで音楽CDは遺されています。
バレンボイムの妻は名チェリスト、デュ・プレです。彼女は不世出の女流チェリストとして活躍している最中に、多発性硬化症という不治の病に取り憑かれ、その後16年間難病と闘って死に至るのです。その間、彼女を支え続けたバレンボイムの誠実さ特筆すべきものです。彼の演奏するモーツアルトをお聴き下さい！

経歴について彼のHPからの抜粋です。
Daniel Barenboim was born in Buenos Aires in 1942 as a Jewish Russian descent. His family moved to Israel in 1952. He made his debut as a pianist in Vienna and Rome in 1952. From then， he made annual concert tours of the United States and Europe.
He made his recordings the most important works in the piano repertory， including complete cycles of the piano sonatas of Mozart and Beethoven and concertos by Mozart， Beethoven， Brahms and Bartok.
During the same period， he devoted more time to conducting. He made tours with the English Chamber Orchestra all over the world， from 1965， lasted over a decade.
He was assigned as a conductor with the New Philharmonia Orchestra in London in 1967.
He made his opera conducting debut in 1973 in Edinburgh， UK. He made his Bayreuth debut in 1981.
In 1991 he succeeded Sir Georg Solti as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 1992 he became General Music Director of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin. He has also had a long and distinguished association with the Berlin Philharmonic and maintains a close relationship as well with the Vienna Philharmonic.
